The best and most effective way to repair a pothole and make it last. See how to cut out, clean, and repair as well as preventing the pothole from popping out or reforming in the future.
1. Surface Preparation
Cone off a sufficient working area to ensure worker safety and correct PPE is used. Mark out the area to be cut out using an temporary aerosol like TempoTP. Using a disc cutter cut a clean edge for a durable finish which helps the cold-lay material adhere to the edges and avoids material popping out.
For installation you will need:
- PatchMaster
- Disc Cutter
- PPE
- Broom
- Spade
- BituSeal
- ThermaBand
- Gas Torch
- Wacker Plate / punner (rammer)
2. Clear The Hole
Use the spade and hand tools to remove excess materials.
3. Ensure the area is clean and dry
Clear any excess materials using a brush and drying equipment if necessary.
4. Application Of BituSeal
BituSeal increases the bond between the edges and the cold-lay material.
5. Pour In The PatchMaster Cold-Lay Material
Pour the PatchMaster cold-lay material into the prepared area.
6. Compact The Material
Using a punner also known as a tamper compact the surface.
7. Mechanical Compactor
To get an excellent compression of material and consistency of product across the repair use a mechanical compactor.
8. Application Of ThermaBand
To avoid water ingress in the cracks and increased durability of the fix, apply ThermaBand.
9. Application Of Thermaband
Cut the strips of Thermaband to the edge length, then set aside. Pre-heat the surface, to increase the bonding, then place the thermaband on top of the edges.
10. Heat the Thermaband
Heat the ThermaBand using a gas torch, using swinging motion to avoid one area being overheated.
The Hornet is a safer alternative to traditional gas torches, and has greater control of the gas output and easy trigger start.
REMEMBER!
While applying ThermaBand pre-heating the surface is key to improving adhesion.
